Old WWII vintage electromechanical charger for electric livestock fencing. It is marked -The Surge Fencer- and is made by Babson Bros, famous for making dairy equipment such as the Surge Milker.

This is an early AC (alternating current) design fence charger that can just be plugged into the wall (rather then the earlier DC (direct current) battery operated type). It is marked -Approved by Industrial Commission of Wisconsin - 3.43- to show that it was produced legally and in accordance with the wartime rationing laws.

Please see the movie we took of this fencer in action. The bulb or vacuum tube flashes every time that the charger energizes the fence with a pulse of electricity. This is a fascinating device and very steampunk!

This fence charger measures about 6" across the glass dome and 6" out from the wall. It is in excellent cosmetic and working condition, but there is cracking to the power cord insulation in places and the old fused plug is broken as shown.
