1850s three volumes Ruskin The Stones of Venice, possible 1st edition books Venetian architecture art
more photos of this product belowThree volume set of The Stones of Venice with 1850s dates - I don't see where the edition or printings are listed, but these are very close to the first published dates for this work, might even be first editions, I don't know.
These are lovely large books (about 10 1/2" x 7 1/4"), in good condition overall. The books are not perfectly matched in color (I'm not sure they ever were?). One book has the paper spine covering completely loose. But pages are complete and largely clean, remarkably little discoloration for 150+ years old.
Now, a little about the actual book contents - in case you've heard of John Ruskin but can't remember any details, or maybe have never heard of his work at all. This set is an in depth study of the historic buildings of Venice, their design and ornament. Much of which is lost or endangered today, which makes this record even more important. Some lovely architectural drawings here, too.
