old antique carved bone lacemaking or millinery ribbon trimming tool, vintage sewing

Antique hand-carved bone sewing tool... we've been told that this was used for shirring ribbon or lace over the smooth flat surface, for trimming dresses or hats. It measures 8" long x about 1" wide, and is polished to a wonderful silky smoothness.
