Pair of antique, early century vintage, silk hangings with block printed images of Catholic saints. We believe that these silks are both Italian or Sicilian in origin as they are labeled in Italian and are both Sicilian icons.

One print is of Maria SS Dell'Udienza (the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus), the patron saint of Sambuca Zabot (a small town in western Sicily that was renamed Sambuca di Sicilia in 1921) and is from the Church of the Immaculate Conception there. This print is dated 1903.

The other print is of Santa Lucia, Vergine e Martire (Saint Lucia, Virgin and Martyr). Saint Lucia is an early Christian saint and martyr from Syracuse in Sicily. There is no date on this one, but it is from the same estate and we're dating it the same period.

The Virgin Mary is a off white and Saint Lucia is a pink shade as shows in the first picture.

These measure about 11 1/2" to 11 3/4" wide and about 15" long. They are in nice condition for pieces of this age with fraying to the edges and some spotting.
