antiqued brass vintage twin light student's desk table lamp

Vintage twin light student lamp with metal shades, and 'antiqued brass' finish, in very nice condition. It measures 24" tall. The original wiring looks good and works.

This has two switches on the base, we aren't sure why! It works fine when we tested it with standard light bulbs, which is all we had here... but we wonder if it might have been made for a three-way as well, and so the second switch?
