antique flower garden patchwork prints top, vintage hand-stitched quilt

Beautiful old Grandma's flower garden quilt, with vintage cotton print fabric quilt top in all colors! This was begun in the 30s or 40s, but though the quilt top was completed, it was not backed or quilted until nearly two generations later... in the 60s or early 70s.

The quilt top is made of 30s and 40s fabrics (possibly some older pieces, but I don't think anything newer than 1950). The backing is a cotton or cotton blend sheet, entirely hand-stitched to quilt it to the top. Somehow, it works... we just love this piece!

We wonder if the quilt was finally completed by the lady to began it (maybe for a granddaughter or great granddaughter), or if the quilt top was later finished by children or grandchildren. They must have been naturally gifted needleworkers if so, as we seldom find quilts of this quality of handwork. The patchwork piecing looks lovely and lays straight and flat, and the quilted pattern is very detailed and perfectly done, as you can see on the backing.

The quilt measures 90" x 68". It's in very good condition overall, just a little edge fraying, and a few light spots which we have not attempted to remove.
