Royal Stafford made in England earthenware ceramic salad plates in the Chequers (black and warm white checks) pattern. Checkerboard or chess board, so Alice in Wonderland! This is a set of four plates about 8 3/4" in diameter.

This is a used, vintage set - a few light utensil marks but nice and glossy overall. No chips or cracks.
