vintage Mexican pottery black clay rooster chicken shape jug, vase or pitcher

Vintage black pottery jug shaped like a bird - I think this is a rooster? We were told this is from Mexico, but aside from that I can't tell you much about it. It's not signed that I could see.

I love the color, and the rustic, roughly styled shape (this is lopsided in real life, it's not the photos!). Measures about 9 1/2" tall, it's in good condition without chips or cracks.
