We love this old patchwork quilt... it was
made as a friendship quilt, and the quilt blocks are all different, each
handmade and signed with embroidered letters. Overall size is about 68"
The blocks vary a little in quality and condition (some were pieced of scraps, other from 'rag bag' fabric), but the piece as a whole is charming.
This came out of the estate of a lady who was a UW student at Madison during the early 1930s, but aside from that we know nothing more of it's possible history.
There's noticeable fading to the cotton backing fabric, and a little yellowing and soil from many years of storage. We saw a few short seams which have come unsewn, but this doesn't really look as though it's had much, if any use.
