huge old antique blacksmith forged hewing ax head with an 11" blade. It's quite an early and primitive axe head, probably Civil War era or earlier.
The body of the ax head is wrought iron with a wide steel blade forge welded on. You can see the lovely swirls and patterning to the wrought iron left by the blacksmith.
Overall this measures about 11" along the cutting edge and 8 1/2" deep. The blade offset to one side of the eye for hewing beams and planks.
