vintage WWII army oil can for gun oiling maintenance soldiers backpack field kit

Old World War Two vintage US military oil can with army green paint. We've been told that these oil cans were issued to soldiers for caring for their guns while in the field.

It measures about 5" tall x 2 3/4" with wear to the paint and some minor rust to the chain.
