early Victorian vintage, kerosene lamp diffuser shades, 1870s patent date
more photos of this product belowLot of two early old glass "Illuminator" style diffuser shades for kerosene or oil lamps from the mid to later 19th century. One of these diffusers is marked "Illuminator - B. X. L." and "Pat Reis Feb '77" (so the patent for this shade was reissued on February 13, 1877).
The second diffuser shade is marked "Reis Apr 11 1888". The other side is marked, but we can't make out what it says.
The 1870s Illuminator diffuser measures about 2 1/2" across the fitter, 3 1/4" high and 7 1/8" across the pan that holds the lamp shade.
The second 1880's shade measures about 2 1/2" across the chimney fitter, 3 1/2" high and 7 1/4" across the pan that hold the lamp shade.
These two old glass kerosene student lamp diffuser shades are in very nice shape, but do have roughness to the edges. The shade with the 1880's patent has a small chip.
