pair of antique Victorian kerosene oil lamp shades, 1877 patent date
more photos of this product belowPair of early old glass "Illuminator" shades for kerosene oil or student lamps from the 1870s. There are both the original old milk glass upper lamp shades and the clear lower lamp shade holders. The lower diffusers of these kerosene lamp shades are marked "Illuminator - B. X. L." and "Pat Reis Feb 13 '77" (so this US patent was reissued on February 13th, 1877).
The old glass lamp diffusers measure 2 1/2" across the fitter (where they fit into the lamp chimney holders) and 3" high. They are about 7 1/2" across the pan.
The milk glass lamp shades measure 7" across the fitter with the glass diffuser, 5" high and 3 3/4" across the top of the shade.
These old student oil lamp shades are in very nice condition for their age, but they have flea bites and roughness to the rims. The top flange of one of the milk glass shades has an area of chipping.
