1890s vintage Manning Bowman copper coffee pot basket for samovar, antique percolator

Highly polished copper Manning Bowman filter basket pot for a large samovar, we think?

It has an 1897 patent date on the bottom, and measures about 7" tall x 7 1/2" across the handles.

The pot is solid on the bottom, so we're not exactly sure how this would work. But the basket looks like a percolator piece to us!
