Vintage Shafford - Japan ring dish with a little beaver or a squirrel?

Actually looks most like a woodchuck to me, but a woodchuck seems like an odd choice of animal, you don't find many collectible gophers or woodchucks or muskrats! Squirrels are popular, and sometimes beavers.

It's a cute little piece, in very good condition. No chips or cracks, just a little glaze crazing.
