Tiffany & Co silverplate mark vintage tray chippendale silver plate NOT sterling

Vintage Chippendale style tray, marked Tiffany & Co Silverplate on the back (see photos). This measures 14 1/2" x 10" overall.

I have not been able to find out much of anything about the history of silver plated pieces at Tiffany's. Doesn't seem as though silverplate is unknown, though of course most of what you see for sale is sterling silver. I don't believe Tiffany makes or sells any silver plate today.

I am not at all familiar with their silver, and honestly, I would have expected something a little nicer in their work - this piece doesn't really look like anything special to me. But it wouldn't be the first time I've been left a little disappointed by a 'big name' which is one of the the reasons I love vintage. Mostly the best is what lasts.

The weight of this piece is as you'd expect for something like mid-century International Silver. The silver plate has no spots visibly worn, though this does have some scratching. It's a used piece, out of an estate.
