Victorian antique ironstone china biscuit jar, aesthetic design brown transferware print
more photos of this product below
Victorian era English china biscuit or lump sugar jar (about 6" tall overall x 6 3/4" across the handles). The inside of the lid is marked with the old registry mark as shown, there are no makers marks.
I don't know the maker or the exact age of this piece, solidly 1800s and obviously England, of course. It's crazed and stained from age and use, but has no chips or cracks to the jar or the lid. Amazing really, for a piece about 150 years old!
This has a very elaborate pattern in the aesthetic style, birds and natural botanical elements with detailed borders, small 'frames' with more patterning and even smaller scenes (that tiny sailing ship!). There's a few print flaws here as you might expect of this period. The handles are well molded with fancy shaping, really a lot going on here. A beautiful Victorian vintage piece.
