antique 1800s photo case for daguerreotype or ambrotype early portrait photography

EMPTY case which once held an early photo portrait, mid or late 1800s vintage.

These two pieces look as though they were once held together with a bandage of old tape at the spine, though the design front and back are different.

There's no clasp or hinges, though aside from that this seems fine. Measures 2 3/4" x 2 1/4" overall.
