antique Victorian lady french ivory gutta percha dressing table set, brush comb mirror velvet case
more photos of this product belowBeautiful and unusual old dressing table case with gutta percha brush, comb, hand mirror, two small round boxes or pots, toothbrush, and nail buffer as shown.
It's turn of the century vintage, out of a trousseau collection from a lady married around 1905. We have a number of lovely old pieces of of this collection, vanity items and a few pictures we're listing.
This set was much loved, and is not in perfect condition. We love it anyway - it's very, very seldom we find these 100 year old+ sets as complete as this one!
The handles of the mirror and brush have cracking at the handle joins. I don't know if these could be mended (glued?) or restored. The mark in the detail photo reads Made Under Pat 671-519, which is a design patent for molded application, circa 1901.
The mirror back and brush back have a portrait of a girl in the Regency or Empire style, more mid-Victorian than the patent dates would indicate. I believe this set was probably in production not much changed from the time of the Civil War.
The case has cracking to the illustration on the top (we haven't touched it, but believe it might be able to be restored by someone with skill at this sort of thing).
Aside from that, the case looks good, complete, red velvet on the exterior not much faded. There's some spotting and age to the fabric lining the interior. This measures about 12" x 8" x 3 1/2" overall.
