antique cast brass or bronze decorative hardware, celtic scrolls architectural ornament

This is a lovely old piece of heavy cast brass or bronze hardware, though we're not sure what it is! It's been suggested to us that this might be a movable cover for a mail slot or key hole.

It doesn't appear to be marked at all that we could find. We're guessing the age at 1910s, just from the patina of tarnish and the other items from this estate. Could be 20 years either side of that pretty easily!

It measures 14" long x 5" wide at the widest point. The groove at the back is 3/8" wide, 9" long end to end.

This makes a beautifully decorative accent piece just as it is, but we'd love to know more about it, so please email us if you know what this is or was. Thank you!
