large antique iron horseshoes w/Oshkosh, Wis forge mark/salesman's sample

Lot of three assorted old and antique iron horseshoes for farm draft and work horses. These have been painted in years gone by to serve as good luck charms. Two are painted in gold or brass tone and one is painted black.

The smaller brass painted horse shoe is marked with raised lettering -5H Giant Grip Mfg Co - Oshkosh - Made in U.S.A.- It also has a detailed raised forgemark emblem for OshKosh Horse Shoes. We were surprised to see that a horse shoe (a utilitarian item intended to be down in the dirt and mud) should have been marked with such detail and so we think that it might have been made as a salesman's sample.

The large gold horseshoe is about 8" x 7" and the black one is 7 1/4" x 6 3/4".
