antique vintage Nippon hand painted round globe vase pink & gold, damaged rim

Early 1900s vintage Oriental China - Nippon heavy porcelain vase (or lamp font?), gorgeous romantic era painting on this one. Textured gold, roses floral on pink.

It's small round 'bottle' shape, about 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". I'm mystified about the broken neck on this piece, it looks neatly and intentionally chipped off all around. I can't think why. The paint shows only the light wear you'd expect from careful use and a hundred years of age so it seems strange to find this sort of damage.

The Oriental China Nippon mark is a rare one, so I was happy to find this anyway. Here's one you can happily use for flowers.
