antique vintage silver plate stirrer spoon, long handled spoon w/ 1909 patent date

I am not sure of the purpose of this lovely long handled spoon - it has a May 1909 patent date which is probably a design patent. Possibly a drink stirrer?

It shows little wear, but has a nice patina of age and tarnish to the silver plate. Measures about 8" long end to end.
