antique vintage solid brass bell, ships bell? dinner bell? schoolhouse bell?

Worn old unmarked brass bell without a hanger or a clapper... it's about 3 1/2" tall x 4 3/4" across the rim. Mounting is 1/8" hole in a 1/4" boss.

We have no idea as to what it was or where it was originally stationed, we found it in a pile of brass scrap at a farm in Wisconsin.

It's 'chewed' at the rim, and very tarnished from age and weathering. It's a nice heavy bell, we only wish we knew more about it.
