bug eyed little dog china figurine vintage Japan, itchy puppy crazy chasing a fly

Small unmarked china dog figurine, probably made in Japan, mid century vintage. I've been calling this little guy Mr Itchy - it looks like he's after a fly, though that's actually a pin hole in the china that it looks like he's licking. I don't know if that's intentional, or a makers flaw? He has no other condition problems, no chips or damage. Measures about 2 3/4" long.
