Pair of large old Civil War era portraits of a couple in ornate metal frames with convex or bubble glass. These portraits look to be finished with chalks or pastels and we think that they are probably hand colored early photographs, although it is possible that they are artist's portraits.

We're not sure of the exact age of these, but we're guessing that they are mid 19th century (probably late 1840s to early 1870s). We believe that the frames are original to the portraits.

The frames are stamped metal with applied cast metal rococo floral filigrees. They measure about 20" high and 14" wide over the portraits inside the frames. The frames are somewhat larger over the filigrees.

These have wear and age and there is damage to the bottom filigree on the frame of the man's portrait.
