antique vintage German christening shawl, ivory linen damask, dated 1938

Beautiful mint condition ivory linen damask shawl or blanket, with lettering all in German. We've been told that this is a christening shawl, it's dated 1938. This came out of an estate in northern Illinois, the lady was in her 90s.

Measures 74" x 50", not counting the fringe on the edges. It's a lovely thing, in perfect condition.
