large knitting / needlework basket, vintage Mexico souvenir

Large colorful basket brought back from a trip to Mexico... we don't know what area this was from, or the makers, sorry. I think it was made as a market basket, but was used to hold knitting for years.

The basket measures 15 1/2" in diameter over the widest part, and about 9 1/2" across the opening at the top. This is missing the orginal lid, but is otherwise in very good shape.
