primitive old handmade wood split splint woven basket, farm country basket vintage 1936

Hand woven basket with wood handle, dated 1936 in pencil on the bottom. This has a number of splits and breaks to the basket weave, but it's still a lovely primitive piece for display.

It measures 15 1/2" tall (8" deep), 13 1/2" x 9" over the basket. I'm not sure what the wood is here, sorry. We do know that it came out of a farm estate in the Wisconsin / Illinois state line area.
