primitive old stoneware crock bowl, farm chicken feed or water dish, vintage chick feeder

Unmarked old stoneware crock dish with hairline cracks as shown. I was told this was a chick feeder or waterer, but I have only this piece and have no idea what the top looked like or the type or brand this might have been. It's clean but I think it was probably frozen at some point (hence the crack), though the glaze looks good without pops or chipping.
