huge antique sharpening / honing steel for kitchen butcher knives

Huge old wood handled steel for honing kitchen carving or butcher knife blade edges. This isn't marked that we could find, but we'd expect it's German? It came out of a farm estate here in rural Wisconsin.

The steel is 14" long, and it's 19 1/2" long to the end of the worn wooden handle. The steel itself seems to be in very good condition, it's been in use until fairly recently.
