pair of gentle mules, vintage studio pottery figurines, California ceramics?

Pair of 1940s or 50s vintage studio pottery figurines, a pair of gentle mules in soft, realistic colors. We love these, it's a nice change to find mules or donkeys not rendered as a cartoon style figure!

These are unmarked except for the penciled original price (fifty-nine cents) on the bottom of the feet. We're guessing they're probably Califoria pottery?

Each mule measures 6 1/2" tall x 5 1/2" long. One has a tiny glaze chip to his ear, but overall these look wonderful, with very little crazing, not discolored at all.
