early 1890s The Ball-Mason's Patent fruit jar w/wrinkled glass - hand made?
more photos of this product belowOld antique 1880s 1 quart Ball mason jar with a metal screw cap lid. This jar is marked THE BALL in block lettering as well as Mason's Patent - Nov 30th 1858. It is also marked 191 or 161 on the bottom of the jar. The glass is wrinkled with bubbles and the writing is very faint with age.
We've been told that because of the markings, this old jar is an early Ball jar from shortly after Ball moved from their factory in Buffalo, NY to their new factory in Muncie, IN. And that it is probably hand made. It dates to the early 1890 (between about 1892 and 1895).
