vintage Mexican basket w/ lid - picnic hamper or covered basket for sewing & knitting

Vintage made in Mexico basket with snug fitting lid, shaped a little like a snake basket (wider at the bottom).

It's 12 1/2" in diameter across the base, and 13 1/2" tall overall. We're unsure of its original purpose, though we think it would make a good storage basket or picnic basket.

It's showing some age and dust / soil marks, but it's in good solid shape.
