vintage Stangl pottery pink dogwood long rectangular box, cigarette box?

Vintage Stangl pottery box in the pink dogwood pattern, in excellent condition. This seems maybe a little large for cigarettes (measures about 7 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 2" overall) but we're not sure what else it might have been made for.
