vintage Syroco collie dog doorstop, heavy wood composition w/ antique gold finish

Large heavy old Syroco (wood composition?) collie dog, about 10 3/4" x 10 3/4". I think this was made as fireplace decor piece, or a door stop? This has wear and crazing / crackling to the gold, which really only adds to the charm to this vintage piece.
