vintage brass bed warmer, large solid brass pan for hot coals or roasting chestnuts

We believe this is probably a bedwarmer, but we've been told by a few people that it's a chestnut roaster! It's a lovely large solid brass pan with a long wooden handle, not marked at all that we could see.

The pan measures 11 1/2" in diameter x 2 1/2" deep, and has a hole as shown is the photos. The entire piece measures 42" long end to end.
