vintage handcrafted wood jewelry chests, incense boxes from Syria

Two small wooden boxes from the middle-east, vintage souvenir pieces which we think held herbs or incense originally? Both of these boxes have some wear and rubbing, also some missing bits to the inlay.

Sizes are 4" x 4" (this one is marked Syria) and 5 1/4" x 3 3/4" (this one has inlaid bone or shell tiles, and is unmarked).
