vintage majolica style covered butter dish, ceramic basket weave w/ flowers hand painted Japan

Old made in Japan ceramic butter dish, majolica style, with basketweave texture and raised design of garden flowers.

This one is a little browned and crazed, but we so seldom find complete top and bottom for butter dishes! And the paint looks very good.

This is made to hold a block about 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" deep. Not a full one pound block, at least, not the way it's shaped today!
