This tool has a 4 inch diameter wood wheel that drives a mechanical counter with a pair of small brass bevel gears.
The mechanical counter is marked with a patent date of 1911. This turns well, smooth and quite!
To use this thread counter you thread the yarn or string through the two brass pigtails and over the top of the wooden wheel. Then as you pull the string through the wheel turns measuring the length of the cord pulled through.
