yellow bird vintage pottery planter flower pot, McCoy or Shawnee?

Vintage pottery planter shaped like a bird (it's about 5 1/2" long end to end, stands about 3 3/4" tall). The bottom is unglazed and unmarked.

We're sure this is an old USA piece, but haven't been able to track down a maker for certain... McCoy? Shawnee? It's in very good condition without chips or cracks.
