vintage carved black soapstone or composition owls, NUVUK Canada or Pacific Northwest?

Lot of two animal carvings with owls, maybe soapstone or some sort of stone composition? Color is a dark charcoal grey, almost black. These might be from Canada or Alaska? I know very little about native art or carvings in general!

The owl pair figurine measures about 4 1/2" tall, and is marked AP or AB. The mother and baby owlets figurine is about 4" wide, not marked or signed that we could see.
