antique 1880s vintage metal box tea caddy, tole painted round tea tin

Very nice primitive old metal tea or tinder box, hand painted, about 4 1/2" in diameter x 3 1/4".

We found this with a note dated late 1970s which said this was bought with a few other pieces for a couple of dollars, all of it about 100 years old at the time. (This was back in the days when antique stores bought and sold actual antiques!)

Aside from that, we don't know a lot about this piece. It does look 1880s to us, and we know the dealer mentioned in the note - he's in his late 80s now, and has been buying and selling antiques here in Wisconsin for his whole life.
