antique horse farrier horseshoeing tools&files w/primitive wood handles
more photos of this product belowLot of five large antique vintage coarse iron files with primitive wood handles. These are from an old farm estate near Portage, Wisconsin (the Amish country of Wisconsin). Farriers and blacksmiths would use large coarse toothed files / rasps for trimming and shaping the horse's hoof while fitting them for new shoes.
There are included three large flat files. They measure: 23" long over the handle & 1 5/8" wide and two measure 19 1/2" long over the handle & 1 3/8" wide). There is also a large square file that measures 21" long over the handle and about 3/4" square with a crosshatch tooth pattern.
There is also a 19 1/2" long tool with a smooth shank and a wood rasp pad (about 3" long) at the end. We've been told that this tool is a tooth file used by a veterinarian or a "horse doctor" for filing down the horses teeth.
These are primitive old tools with rust and a patina of age.
