vintage glass canister, old general store counter jar for candy, peanuts or cigars

Vintage glass store counter canister - we were told this was for tobacco, though we think it looks a little small for cigars? It's 6" in diameter across the widest point of the jar, about 6 1/4" tall.

It's in very good clean condition without damage or wear, and would be lovely for candy, marbles, or other small collections!
