1850s antique 19th century Staffordshire brown transferware ironstone china mini tureen

English Staffordshire tureen manufactured for Davenport Bro, New York, mid 1800s. Over 150 years old, this is an exceptional piece. Heavy ironstone china with beautiful lines, brown transferware print (a Grecian or Roman scene? Maybe Venus and Cupid, or Cupid and Psyche?). It's stained, and chipped from age and use as you might expect.

It has the notched lid for spoon or ladle, but measures just 7 1/2" tall overall - more like a candy dish in today's sizing! This is a very early tureen. A lovely piece for display - even the mark on the bottom of the foot is a work of art.
