antique Civil War photo, 1800 ambrotype in gutta percha case, man w/sword

Antique 1800 Civil War vintage photograph in a gutta percha case. The photo appears to show a man in a long, light colored, coat with shoulder cape and holding a sword.

This needs restoration to the photo and to the case.

We've been told that this is a ambrotype photo and there is peeling and flaking the dark image backing

The case is a Littlefield Parsons daguerreotype case and has some damage (shown in the 5th and 7th photos) and the hinges are loose.
