antique stoneware crock jar, vintage French pottery fruit preserves or confit pot

Old glazed stoneware crock jar... this is unmarked, we've been told it's from France. We love the beautiful dark brown colored glaze on this one!

I believe it's made to have a paper or cheesecloth cover tied around at the neck of the jar with a string, there's no lid or cork with this piece. It's about 5 1/2" tall, 3 1/4" across the rim of the jar.

It's roughly made, with makers flaws and / or some chips from use. There's a short hairline at the rim at the top.
