antique wood box, jewelry chest or case for tools or instruments, tea caddy shape

Beautifully handmade wood box, late 1800s or very early 1900s vintage. It's pine with a deep walnut colored finish on the outside, painted orange on the inside. The orange paint makes me feel that this was likely a case for specialty tools or instruments - but honestly, this is pretty enough to hold jewelry or coins, or other heirlooms.
It measures 6" tall overall, 11 1/2" x 7" at the bottom edge of the box. This edge of the molding on the lid has been damaged (a long split from the edge, see photos) but the wood was finished over that, there's no finish loss. There's a paper label with former owner's name on the bottom of the box - newer than the box itself, still very much vintage.
