framed vintage needlework picture, cottage scene embroidery in silk thread?

Beautiful framed embroidered picture, worked in shiny silk or rayon thread? It's matted and framed under glass, and we haven't taken this apart for fear of damaging this piece.

The needlework is about 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" overall and looks excellent, though the paper matting is somewhat yellowed. We'd guess that the painted wood frame is period to this piece (20s? 30s?). It measures 9 1/4" x 7 1/4" overall.
